Ajñātavāsa-saṅkalpaḥ — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Resolve and Dhaumya’s Exempla on Concealment
सत्यवानुवाच वन॑ प्रतिभयाकारं घनेन तमसा55वृतम् । न विज्ञास्यसि पन्थानं गन्तुं चैव न शक्ष्यसि,सत्यवान् बोले--प्रिये! यह वन गाढ अंधकारसे आच्छादित होकर अत्यन्त भयंकर दिखायी दे रहा है। इस समय न तो तुम्हें रास्ता सूझेगा और न तुम चल ही सकोगी
satyavān uvāca | vanaṁ pratibhayākāraṁ ghanena tamasāvṛtam | na vijñāsyasi panthānaṁ gantuṁ caiva na śakṣyasi ||
Satyavān said: “Beloved, this forest appears truly terrifying, shrouded in dense darkness. In such a time you will not be able to discern the path, nor will you be able to proceed.”
यम उवाच
The verse highlights prudent care and protective responsibility: when conditions are dangerous and clarity is lost, one should not press forward blindly but act with concern for another’s safety.
Satyavān warns his beloved that the forest is enveloped in thick darkness, making the route impossible to discern and movement difficult, urging caution in continuing the journey.
