Dharma-pratyabhijñāna and Vara-pradāna (धर्मप्रत्यभिज्ञानम्—वरप्रदानम्)
सावित्री बोली--उपवासके कारण मुझे किसी प्रकारकी शिथिलता और थकावट नहीं है। चलनेके लिये मेरे मनमें पूर्ण उत्साह है, अतः आप मुझे मना न कीजिये ।। सत्यवानुवाच यदि ते गमनोत्साह: करिष्यामि तव प्रियम् मम त्वामन्त्रय गुरून् न मां दोष: स्पृशेदयम्
satyavān uvāca—yadi te gamanotsāhaḥ kariṣyāmi tava priyam | mama tvām antraya gurūn na māṃ doṣaḥ spṛśed ayam ||
Satyavān said: “If you truly have the eagerness to go, I will do what pleases you. But first, seek permission from my elders, so that no blame may fall upon me in this matter.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
Even when fulfilling a loved one’s wish, one should act within dharma—showing respect to elders and social propriety—so that the action remains blameless.
Sāvitrī insists she is strong and eager to accompany Satyavān. Satyavān agrees, but asks her first to obtain the elders’ consent so that he is not held at fault.
