Then, on an auspicious day dear to them, when the Vaiṣṇava constellation (Śravaṇa) was in ascendance, the two sages Vasiṣṭha and Vāmadeva together performed the royal consecration of the heroic Lord Rāma. The episode underscores that rightful sovereignty is to be established through sacred timing, Vedic sanction, and the guidance of realized teachers, so that kingship becomes a dharmic trust rather than mere power.

Educational Q&A

Legitimate rule is grounded in dharma: it is affirmed through sacred rites, auspicious timing, and the sanction of wise teachers, reminding that political authority should serve righteousness rather than personal ambition.

Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that on an auspicious Vaiṣṇava day associated with the Śravaṇa nakṣatra, the sages Vasiṣṭha and Vāmadeva jointly perform Rāma’s royal consecration (abhiṣeka), formally installing him as king.
