Sāvitrī’s Dialogue with Yama and the Restoration of Satyavān
rāmasyāstreṇa pṛthivī parikṣiptā sasāgarā | yaśasā pṛthivīṁ kṛtsnāṁ pūrayiṣyati te patiḥ ||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: “In my vision I saw the whole earth—together with the encircling ocean—covered by Rāma’s missile. Therefore it is certain: your husband will fill the entire world with his fame.” The saying frames martial power as ultimately meaningful when it culminates in righteous renown rather than mere conquest.
True greatness is measured not merely by force but by the righteous fame (yaśas) that spreads through the world; power becomes ethically significant when it supports dharma and earns enduring good repute.
Mārkaṇḍeya reports a dream/vision omen: he saw the earth with its oceans covered by Rāma’s weapon, and he interprets this as a sure sign that the addressed woman’s husband will become world-renowned.
