Sāvitrī’s Dialogue with Yama and the Restoration of Satyavān
ity uktvā samayaṃ kṛtvā viśvāsya ca parasparam | abhyetya sarve kiṣkindhāṃ tasthur yuddhābhikāṅkṣiṇaḥ ||
Having spoken thus, they made a mutual compact and, reassuring one another in trust, all of them came to Kiṣkindhā. There they stood firm, eager for battle—bound by their pledged word and the confidence they had established between themselves.
The verse highlights the ethical force of a pledged agreement (samaya) and the social necessity of mutual trust (viśvāsa). Collective action—especially in conflict—rests on keeping one’s word and sustaining confidence among allies.
After making a pact and reassuring each other, the group proceeds to Kiṣkindhā and takes a firm stand there, ready and eager to engage in battle.
