Mārkaṇḍeya said: The Grandsire (Brahmā), pleased at heart, then granted Vaiśravaṇa immortality, made him the Lord of Wealth, and appointed him as a Guardian of the World—showing how divine favor follows merit and results in responsibility, not mere privilege.

Educational Q&A

Divine boons are portrayed as confirmations of worth and as assignments of duty: being made ‘Lord of Wealth’ and a ‘Lokapāla’ implies stewardship and protection of cosmic order, not indulgence.

Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that Brahmā, pleased with Vaiśravaṇa, grants him immortality and elevates him to the offices of Dhanesha (Lord of Wealth) and Lokapāla (world-guardian).
