Chapter 270: Slaying of Prahasta; Defeat of Dhūmrākṣa; Awakening of Kumbhakarṇa
ततो<पश्यंस्तस्य सैन्यस्य रेणु- मुद्भूतं वै वाजिखुरप्रणुन्नम् । पदातीनां मध्यगतं च धौम्यं विक्रोशन्तं भीममभिद्रवेति,तदनन्तर उन्हें जयद्रथकी सेनाके घोड़ोंकी टॉपसे आहत होकर उड़ती हुई धूल दिखायी दी। उसके साथ ही पैदल सैनिकोंके बीचमें होकर चलते हुए पुरोहित धौम्य भी दृष्टिगोचर हुए, जो बार-बार पुकार रहे थे--“भीमसेन! दौड़ो'
tato ’paśyaṁs tasya sainyasya reṇum udbhūtaṁ vai vājikhura-praṇunnam | padātīnāṁ madhyagataṁ ca dhaumyaṁ vikrośantaṁ bhīmam abhidraveti ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Then he saw the dust-cloud of that army, kicked up by the blows of horses’ hooves. And he also saw the priest Dhaumya moving amid the foot-soldiers, repeatedly crying out, “Bhīma! Run—charge forward!” The scene signals urgency and righteous resolve: the trusted preceptor’s call becomes a moral summons to swift action in the face of an aggressor’s force.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights decisive action guided by rightful counsel: in moments of crisis, dharmic response is not passive—one must act swiftly when duty and protection of the wronged demand it, especially when urged by a trusted moral authority.
A dust-cloud rises from an approaching army, churned up by horses’ hooves. Amid the infantry, the priest Dhaumya is seen urgently shouting to Bhīma to run forward and charge, indicating imminent confrontation and the need for immediate pursuit.
