Arrival of Mārkaṇḍeya and Counsel on Truth-Vows
brāhmaṇy-anupamā dṛṣṭiḥ kṣātram apratimaṃ balam | tau yadā carataḥ sārthaṃ tadā lokaḥ prasīdati ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “The Brahmin possesses an incomparable vision—discernment and counsel—while the Kshatriya possesses incomparable strength. When these two move and act together in harmony, the whole world becomes calm and prosperous.”
Society prospers when discerning counsel (brāhmaṇa-dṛṣṭi) and protective executive power (kṣātra-bala) cooperate; wisdom should guide strength, and strength should uphold wisdom, producing social peace (prasāda) and well-being.
Vaiśampāyana offers a general maxim about social and political order: the complementary roles of Brahmins and Kshatriyas—insight and strength—bring stability when they act together rather than in rivalry.
