Mārkaṇḍeya said: “He who is joined with Soma by means of the second oblation is known by the epithets ‘Lord of the Chariot’ (Rathaprabhu), ‘He whose sound is the rumble of a chariot’ (Rathadhvāna), and ‘He whose seed is in a pot’ (Kumbharetā).” In the ritual context, he receives the second share of clarified butter (ājya-bhāga) along with the Soma-deity, indicating his honored place among the gods and the sanctity of properly apportioned offerings.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse underscores ritual dharma: offerings in a sacrifice are to be properly apportioned, and specific divine recipients are honored through designated shares and epithets, reflecting an ordered sacred cosmos.
Mārkaṇḍeya identifies a deity associated with Soma who receives the second oblation and is known by three traditional epithets—Rathaprabhu, Rathadhvāna, and Kumbharetā—linking ritual practice with mythic naming.
