Dharma-vyādha’s Analysis of Moral Decline and the Mahābhūta–Guṇa Schema (धर्मव्याधोपदेशः)
तृप्ताश्चैवान्नदातारो हातृप्ताश्चाप्यनन्नदा: | वस्त्रिणो वस्त्रदा यान्ति अवस्त्रा यान्त्यवस्त्रदा:,अन्न-दान करनेवाले जीव वहाँ भोजनसे तृप्त होकर यात्रा करते हैं; किंतु जिन्होंने अन्नदान नहीं किया है वे भूखका कष्ट सहते हुए चलते हैं। वस्त्र देनेवाले लोग कपड़े पहनकर जाते हैं और जिन्होंने वस्त्रदान नहीं किया है, उन्हें नंगे होकर जाना पड़ता है
tṛptāś caivānna-dātāro hātṛptāś cāpy ananna-dāḥ | vastriṇo vastra-dā yānti avastrā yānty avastra-dāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Those who have given food proceed on their journey satisfied by nourishment; but those who have not given food go on, still unsated, bearing the pain of hunger. Those who have given garments travel clothed, while those who have not given garments must go unclothed. The passage underscores the moral law that charity directly shapes one’s condition in the onward course after death.
