Dharma-vyādha’s Analysis of Moral Decline and the Mahābhūta–Guṇa Schema (धर्मव्याधोपदेशः)

na tārayati dātāraṁ brāhmaṇaṁ naiva naiva tu |

Mārkaṇḍeya said: “Such a gift does not carry either the giver or the Brahmin recipient across (to spiritual merit)—not at all.” In context, he warns that a cow should be given to a single Brahmin, not divided among many; if a donated cow is sold and its price split, the intended sanctity of the gift is lost, and the act becomes harmful rather than salvific for the donor’s lineage.
