वैरबद्धा भविष्यन्ति परस्परवधैषिण: । विद्याके बिना ज्ञान न होनेसे उन सबको लोभ दबा लेगा। फिर लोभ और क्रोधके वशीभूत हुए मूढ़ मनुष्य कामनाओंमें फँसकर आपसमें वैर बाँध लेंगे और एक-दूसरेके प्राण लेनेकी घातमें लगे रहेंगे

Transliteration

vairabaddhā bhaviṣyanti parasparavadhaiṣiṇaḥ |

Translation

Mārkaṇḍeya said: “They will become bound in mutual enmity, each intent on the other’s destruction.” In the ethical frame of the passage, the loss of true knowledge and discipline allows greed, anger, and delusion to dominate; once desire governs the mind, people fall into rivalry and violence, turning against one another with the aim of taking life.
