Having reached the mountain, the diademed Arjuna—wise and self-controlled—alighted there from Indra’s divine chariot. First he bowed his head at the feet of the sage Dhaumya; then, immediately after, he paid homage to Ajātaśatru (Yudhiṣṭhira) as well. The scene underscores the ethic of humility: even after attaining celestial favor and power, Arjuna returns to his elders and rightful king with reverence, placing dharma and kinship above personal achievement.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic humility: even after receiving divine support and honor, Arjuna first venerates his spiritual elder (Dhaumya) and then his rightful king and elder brother (Yudhiṣṭhira). Power and success are to be subordinated to reverence, duty, and proper social-spiritual order.
Arjuna reaches a mountain and descends from Indra’s divine chariot. He immediately offers respectful salutations—first to the sage Dhaumya, then to Yudhiṣṭhira (called Ajātaśatru). This marks Arjuna’s return and reintegration with the Pāṇḍavas after his divine encounter.
