Vaiśampāyana said: “Has that heroic Bhīma—so fond of daring deeds—perhaps committed some rash exploit? For these sudden portents that have appeared are ominous signs foretelling a great battle.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights ethical caution: impulsive heroism (sāhasa) can have grave consequences, and sudden ominous signs invite reflection on responsibility and the larger moral order (dharma) rather than mere excitement for bold action.
The speaker, Vaiśampāyana, interprets unexpected portents as foreshadowing a major conflict and wonders whether Bhīma—known for daring—has done something rash that might have triggered or coincided with these ominous signs.
