Bhīma said: “Dear one, in the Kṛta Yuga there were no separate classes such as gods, demons, Gandharvas, Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, or serpents—there was no mutual division or hostility of kind. In that age, even the practice of buying and selling did not exist.”

Educational Q&A

The verse idealizes the Kṛta Yuga as an age of undivided social-spiritual harmony: beings are not split into antagonistic categories, and commerce (buying/selling) is absent—implying minimal greed, ownership-anxiety, and exploitation, with life sustained by dharma rather than transaction.

Bhīma is describing characteristics of the Kṛta Yuga to his listener, contrasting that primordial era with later ages where distinctions, conflict, and economic exchange arise.
