Gaṅgā-Tīrtha Darśana and the Prelude to the Yavakrīta–Indra Exemplum

iti śrīmahābhārate vanaparvaṇi tīrthayātrāparvaṇi lomaśatīrthayātrāyām aṣṭāvakrīye catuḥtriṃśad-adhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ

Thus, in the revered Mahābhārata, within the Vana Parva—specifically the Tīrtha-yātrā section, in the account of Lomāśa’s pilgrimage and the episode concerning Aṣṭāvakra—this concludes the one-hundred-and-thirty-fourth chapter (i.e., the 134th adhyāya).

Educational Q&A

This line is a colophon marking the end of a chapter and locating it within the Mahābhārata’s structure (Vana Parva → Tīrtha-yātrā section → Lomāśa’s pilgrimage → Aṣṭāvakra episode). Its function is organizational rather than doctrinal.

The narrative segment being referenced is the pilgrimage account narrated in connection with the sage Lomāśa, within which the Aṣṭāvakra episode is situated; this verse itself simply signals the chapter’s conclusion and its placement.
