“This very fool has come here—into my dense forest—at the time when we are out roaming, and when midnight has set in.”
विदुर उवाच
The verse underscores the ethical value of discernment (viveka): entering perilous situations at improper times—without awareness of context—reveals delusion and invites harm. It implicitly praises prudent timing and situational awareness as part of right conduct.
The speaker points out that a certain person—called “deluded”—has arrived in a dense forest precisely at midnight, during the time when the speaker’s group is out roaming. The statement heightens suspense by implying the newcomer has entered a dangerous zone at the worst possible moment.
