देव–विष्णु–संवादः । कालेयगणस्य समुद्राश्रयः । अगस्त्योपसर्पणम्

Devas and Viṣṇu on the Kāleyas; Approach to Agastya

कालेयभयसंत्रस्तो देव: साक्षात्‌ पुरंदर: | जगाम शरणं शीघ्र तं तु नारायणं प्रभुम्‌

kāleyabhayasaṁtrasto devaḥ sākṣāt purandaraḥ | jagāma śaraṇaṁ śīghraṁ taṁ tu nārāyaṇaṁ prabhum ||

Terrified by the danger posed by Kāleya, the god Purandara (Indra) himself hastened to seek refuge in Lord Nārāyaṇa, the supreme master. The episode underscores that even the mighty, when shaken by fear and responsibility, turn to the highest divine protection rather than relying on pride or force alone.

Educational Q&A

True strength includes humility: when confronted by overwhelming danger, even Indra seeks śaraṇa (refuge) in Nārāyaṇa, modeling reliance on the highest dharmic support rather than ego or mere power.

Indra (Purandara), frightened by the threat associated with Kāleya, quickly goes to Nārāyaṇa to seek protection and guidance, indicating a turning point where divine refuge is sought to address a grave peril.
