Strī-parva, Adhyāya 27

स्त्रिय: कुरुपतिर्धीमान्‌ भ्रातुः प्रेमणा युधिष्ठिर: । स ताभि: सह धर्मात्मा प्रेतकृत्यमनन्तरम्‌

striyaḥ kurupatir dhīmān bhrātuḥ premaṇā yudhiṣṭhiraḥ | sa tābhiḥ saha dharmātmā pretakṛtyam anantaram ||

Vaiśampāyana said: The wise lord of the Kurus, Yudhiṣṭhira, moved by love for his brother, then—together with those women—performed the funeral rites immediately thereafter. The verse underscores dharma expressed as compassionate, timely duty toward the dead, even amid overwhelming grief.
