एषा पुण्यजला शक्र कृता मुनिभिरेव तु
eṣā puṇyajalā śakra kṛtā munibhir eva tu
Vaiśampāyana said: “This is a sacred, merit-bearing body of water, O Śakra; it was indeed fashioned by the sages themselves.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores the sanctifying power attributed to tīrthas and sacred waters, grounding their authority in the spiritual accomplishment of sages—suggesting that holiness is established through disciplined ascetic practice and dharmic intent rather than mere geography.
Vaiśampāyana identifies a particular sacred water-body and explains its origin: it is a holy place whose waters confer merit, and it was created by sages; he addresses Śakra (Indra) as part of the ongoing narration.
