विजये धृतसंकल्पा: समरे त्यक्तजीविता:
vijaye dhṛtasaṅkalpāḥ samare tyaktajīvitāḥ
Sañjaya said: Resolute in their aim of victory, they entered the battle having cast aside attachment to life—men who chose steadfast purpose over self-preservation in the harsh demands of war.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights unwavering resolve in the pursuit of a chosen duty—especially the warrior’s commitment to the battle’s objective—where fear of death is subordinated to determination and responsibility.
Sañjaya describes the combatants as entering the fight with fixed intent on victory, so committed that they have mentally renounced concern for their own survival.
