Adhyaya 11 — Draupadī’s Grief, Demand for Justice, and Bhīma’s Departure
यथैतान्यकृथा: पार्थ महाकर्माणि वै पुरा
yathaitāny akṛthāḥ pārtha mahākarmāṇi vai purā
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: “O Pārtha, just as you formerly accomplished these mighty deeds…”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The line invokes remembrance of earlier righteous prowess: recalling one’s past great actions is used as moral encouragement to act with steadiness and responsibility, rather than being overwhelmed by fear, grief, or hesitation.
Vaiśaṃpāyana continues the narration by addressing (or reporting an address to) Arjuna as “Pārtha,” beginning a recollection of Arjuna’s former mighty exploits—setting up a comparison between past heroism and the present crisis in the aftermath of the night massacre (Sauptika events).
