Adhyaya 11 — Draupadī’s Grief, Demand for Justice, and Bhīma’s Departure

तस्य पापकृतो द्रौणेर्न चेदद्य त्वया रणे । हियते सानुबन्धस्य युधि विक्रम्पय जीवितम्‌

tasya pāpakṛto drauṇer na ced adya tvayā raṇe | hīyate sānubandhasya yudhi vikrampaya jīvitam ||

If, today, in battle, you do not take away the life of that evil-doer Drauṇi, then the life of the one who has acted with such sinful intent—together with all its consequences and entanglements—will be diminished and brought to ruin amid the struggle. The statement presses an urgent ethical demand: a grievous wrong committed in war must be answered decisively, lest its chain of repercussions continue to corrode life and order.
