Sañjaya said: “I am not to be slain, and my maternal uncle too is not to be slain; that is why we have survived until now. Therefore, make peace and rule the kingdom for a long time together with the Pāṇḍavas. Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) will be pacified when restrained by me, and Janārdana (Kṛṣṇa) likewise does not desire hostility among you.”

Educational Q&A

Even amid war, the counsel points toward restraint and reconciliation: legitimate authority (rājya) should be stabilized through peace with rightful claimants, and conflict should not be pursued for its own sake—especially when key leaders (Arjuna and Kṛṣṇa) can be inclined toward calming hostilities.

Sañjaya reports a proposal urging the Kuru side to make peace and rule jointly with the Pāṇḍavas. He claims certain figures are ‘avadhya’ (not to be slain) and says he can restrain Arjuna, while Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana) also does not seek internecine opposition.
