कर्णनिधनश्रवणम् — Hearing of Karṇa’s Fall and Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Lament
इस प्रकार श्रीमह्याभारत कर्णपर्वमें धृतराष्रका शोक नामक चौथा अध्याय पूरा हुआ,संजय उवाच हतः शान्तनवो राजन दुराधर्ष: प्रतापवान् । हत्वा पाण्डवयोधानामर्बुदं दशभिर्दिनै: संजयने कहा--राजन्! दुर्जय एवं प्रतापी वीर शान्तनुनन्दन भीष्म दस दिनोंमें पाण्डवदलके दस करोड़ योद्धाओंका संहार करके मारे गये हैं
sañjaya uvāca — hataḥ śāntanavo rājan durādharṣaḥ pratāpavān | hatvā pāṇḍava-yodhānām arbudaṁ daśabhir dinaiḥ ||
Sanjaya said: O King, the son of Śantanu—Bhīṣma—invincible and mighty in prowess, has been slain, after killing an arbuda (a vast host) of the Pāṇḍavas’ warriors within ten days. The report underscores the terrible cost of war: even the greatest champions fall, and victory is measured in grievous destruction rather than true righteousness.
