bālyād iha tvaṃ tyajasi vasu vaiśravaṇo yathā | ayatnenaiva rāḍheya draṣṭāsy adya dhanaṃjayam |
Śalya said: “From sheer childish folly you are squandering your wealth here, as though you were Vaiśravaṇa (Kubera) himself. O son of Rādhā, today you will behold Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) without any effort at all.”
शल्य उवाच
Śalya rebukes reckless, pride-driven action: squandering resources and confidence through immature judgment is ethically blameworthy, and true valor requires disciplined effort rather than boastful waste.
Śalya addresses Karna with cutting counsel, mocking his imprudent conduct and telling him that he will soon face Arjuna—implying that the encounter is imminent and that Karna’s current bravado is misguided.
