Sanjaya said: O King, when that hair-raising battle had begun, the Pandava forces launched a fierce assault upon the Kaurava troops, who had been split into three divisions—an escalation that underscores how strategy and resolve intensify amid the moral strain of war.

The verse highlights how, once war is fully underway, tactical formations (here, a threefold division) invite counter-moves; ethically, it frames the grim momentum of conflict where duty and strategy operate amid fear and exhilaration (lomaharṣaṇa).
As the battle intensifies, the Pandava army charges and attacks the Kaurava forces that are arranged or broken into three divisions, as reported by Sanjaya to King Dhritarashtra.
