Sañjaya said: “Thus, in the revered Mahābhārata, within the Droṇa Parva, in the section known as the Pratijñā Parva, the seventy-sixth chapter—centered on Arjuna’s words—comes to an end.” This closing colophon frames the episode as a vow-driven moment in the war narrative, highlighting how spoken commitments and their moral weight propel action amid the ethical strain of battle.

Educational Q&A

This is a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse: it underscores the ethical seriousness of pratijñā (a vow/pledge). In the epic’s war setting, words—especially vows—create binding moral pressure that shapes duty, resolve, and consequence.

Sañjaya signals the formal close of the chapter within Droṇa Parva, identifying it as part of the Pratijñā Parva and as focused on Arjuna’s speech. It functions as an editorial/narrative marker concluding the unit of the story.
