Adhyāya 62: Sañjaya’s Admonition to Dhṛtarāṣṭra on Rāja-dharma and Consequence
इति श्रीमहा भारते द्रोणपर्वणि अभिमन्युवधपर्वणि षोडशराजकीये द्विषष्टितमो5 ध्याय:
iti śrīmahābhārate droṇaparvaṇi abhimanyuvadhaparvaṇi ṣoḍaśarājakīye dviṣaṣṭitamo 'dhyāyaḥ
Thus ends the sixty-second chapter in the Droṇa Parva of the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the section concerning the slaying of Abhimanyu, in the sub-episode known as the ‘Sixteen Kings’. This is a concluding colophon marking the close of the chapter and situating the narrative within the ethical gravity of wartime conduct and its consequences.
नारद उवाच
This line is a colophon rather than a didactic verse: it teaches indirectly by framing the narrative within a recognized textual structure, reminding the reader that the events—especially Abhimanyu’s killing—belong to a larger ethical discourse on dharma and the moral costs of war.
The sentence does not narrate an event; it formally closes the chapter, identifying it as the 62nd chapter of the Droṇa Parva, within the Abhimanyu-vadha section, and within a sub-episode labeled ‘Sixteen Kings’.
