Yudhiṣṭhira’s Appeal and Kṛṣṇa’s Assurance

Droṇa-parva, Adhyāya 59

ātmānaṃ sampratiṣṭhāpya rājavaṃśam ihāṣṭadhā |

Nārada said: Having firmly established himself and having set up the royal line here in eightfold form—through two sons each, who were portions of himself and of his brothers—he sent the people of all four varṇas to his own abode, and then he too departed, in his very body, to the supreme realm. The passage underscores the ideal of a ruler who first secures orderly succession and social stability, then relinquishes power and attains the highest goal without clinging to worldly sovereignty.
