Vyāsa said: “O Yudhiṣṭhira, of great wisdom and well-versed in all the śāstras, O bull of the Bharata line—men like you do not lose clarity or become deluded when calamities strike.”
व्यास उवाच
True learning and dharmic maturity show themselves in crisis: a wise person does not succumb to भ्रम (delusion) or मानसिक विचलन (loss of judgment) when adversity arises, but maintains discernment and steadiness.
Vyāsa addresses Yudhiṣṭhira with honorific epithets, affirming his scholarship and wisdom, and encourages him by stating that men of his caliber do not become bewildered in times of misfortune—framing Yudhiṣṭhira’s response to the ongoing wartime संकट (crisis).
