स तु राजा महाभागो दृष्ट्वा देवर्षिसत्तमम् | पूजयित्वा यथान्यायं कथामकथयत् तदा,! | ; | उस समय महाभाग राजा अकम्पनने देवर्षिप्रवर नारदजीको आया देख उनकी यथायोग्य पूजा करके उनसे अपने पुत्रकी मृत्युका वृत्तान्त कहा
sa tu rājā mahābhāgo dṛṣṭvā devarṣi-sattamam | pūjayitvā yathā-nyāyaṁ kathām akathayat tadā ||
Then that highly fortunate king, on seeing the foremost of divine seers, duly honored him according to proper custom and, at that time, related to him the account of his son’s death. The verse underscores the ethic of receiving a holy guest with reverence and speaking truthfully of one’s grief and duty-bound circumstances.
व्यास उवाच
The verse highlights dharma in conduct: a righteous person receives a venerable guest (especially a sage) with due honor (yathā-nyāyam) and then speaks candidly and responsibly about painful events. Proper reverence and truthful speech are presented as ethical duties even amid sorrow.
A king (identified in the Gita Press gloss as Akampana) sees the divine sage Nārada arrive, performs the appropriate honors, and then narrates to him the circumstances and details of his son’s death.
