Sañjaya said: His face, stained a single hue by the blood flowing from his wounds, looked fierce; with brows drawn into a hard frown his countenance seemed twisted on every side, and he roared again and again like a lion. In that state, the mighty Abhimanyu—lordly and of immeasurable strength—standing in the midst of the battle, amid the surrounding kings, shone forth with overwhelming brilliance, embodying steadfast courage even while grievously wounded.

The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in its starkest form: steadfast courage and resolve amid pain and danger. Abhimanyu’s radiance is not comfort but moral and martial firmness—standing unshaken even when wounded and surrounded.
Sañjaya describes Abhimanyu in the thick of battle: his clothes and face are stained with blood, his brows are tightly furrowed, and he roars like a lion. Despite injuries and being amid hostile kings, he appears brilliantly formidable.
