Sañjaya said: O King, seeing that the entire burden of the situation had been placed upon Jayadratha, the Kṣatriya warriors raised a great battle-cry and charged in the direction where Yudhiṣṭhira’s forces stood. Eager to strike, with their troops drawn up in ordered formations, they rushed forward—seeking to break through and reach their objective amid the press of war.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights a recurring Mahābhārata ethic of war: when a critical responsibility is concentrated on one key figure, the opposing side responds with intensified, organized action. It underscores Kṣatriya conduct—decisive engagement, coordinated formations, and acceptance of strategic burdens in battle.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the warriors, noticing that the day’s tactical pressure rested chiefly on Jayadratha, shouted and surged forward in formed arrays, charging toward the sector held by Yudhiṣṭhira’s forces to strike and press their advantage.
