“दुर्योधनकी तरह तुम भी मेरे पौत्रके समान हो। धर्मतः जैसे मैं उसका हितैषी हूँ, उसी प्रकार तुम्हारा भी हूँ ।। यौनात् सम्बन्धकाल्लोके विशिष्ट संगतं सताम् | सद्धिः सह नरश्रेष्ठ प्रवदन्ति मनीषिण:,“नरश्रेष्ठी संसारमें यौन (कौटुम्बिक)-सम्बन्धकी अपेक्षा साधु पुरुषोंके साथ की हुई मैत्रीका सम्बन्ध श्रेष्ठ है; यह मनीषी महात्मा कहते हैं

duryodhanakī taraha tuma bhī mere pautrake samāna ho | dharmataḥ yathā ahaṃ tasya hitaiṣī asmi, usī prakāra tumhārā bhī asmi ||
yaunāt sambandhakāl loke viśiṣṭa-saṅgataṃ satām |
sadbhiḥ saha naraśreṣṭha pravādanti manīṣiṇaḥ ||
Sanjaya said: “Like Duryodhana, you too are as a grandson to me. By dharma, just as I am his well-wisher, so am I yours as well. For in this world, the bond formed through association with the virtuous is held to be superior to merely bodily or familial ties; thus do the wise declare, O best of men.”
संजय उवाच
Moral kinship is not limited to birth-relations: the wise esteem association with the virtuous (satsaṅga) as a higher and more formative bond than merely biological or family connection, and dharma requires goodwill toward those connected through such ethical ties.
In the Drona Parva setting, Sanjaya frames his counsel by affirming impartial goodwill: he regards the addressed person as a grandson like Duryodhana and, appealing to dharma, emphasizes that true closeness is grounded in virtuous association rather than only bloodline.
