tān pratyagṛhnād avyagro droṇo 'pi rathināṃ varaḥ | mahārathān atibalān vīrān samarayodhinaḥ ||
Sañjaya said: Then Droṇa too—foremost among chariot-warriors—without losing composure, checked those mighty heroes, great chariot-fighters of immense strength, who were pressing on to fight in the battle.
संजय उवाच
Even amid violent conflict, a commander’s dharma includes steadiness of mind and disciplined control—strength must be guided by composure and strategy rather than panic.
Droṇa, remaining calm, stops or checks a group of extremely powerful mahāratha heroes who are surging forward to fight, indicating a tactical restraint or reordering in the battle.
