ते हन्यमाना: पार्थन त्वदीया व्यथिता भृशम् | स्वानेव बहवो जष्नुर्विद्रवन्तस्ततस्तत:,अर्जुनकी मार खाकर आपके सैनिक अत्यन्त पीड़ित हो रहे थे। उनमेंसे बहुतेरे जो इधर-उधर भागते समय अपने ही पक्षके योद्धाओंको मार डालते थे
te hanyamānāḥ pārthena tvadīyā vyathitā bhṛśam | svān eva bahavo jaghnur vidravantas tataḥ tataḥ ||
Sañjaya said: As they were being struck down by Pārtha (Arjuna), your troops were grievously shaken. In their panic, many, fleeing here and there, ended up slaying even their own men—so complete was the confusion and collapse of discipline in the press of battle.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how fear and loss of self-control in war destroy discernment (viveka): when order collapses, even one’s own side becomes a victim. It implicitly warns that violence and adharma generate chaos that rebounds upon the perpetrators.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Arjuna’s assault has shattered the Kaurava ranks. As they flee in different directions, many Kaurava soldiers, confused and frantic, strike down their own comrades.
