भीष्मपातने कर्णविलापः | Karṇa’s Lament upon Seeing Bhīṣma Fallen
जितो येन रणे रामो भवता वीर्यशालिना । क्षत्रियान्तकरो घोरो देवदानवदर्पहा,“आप अपने पराक्रमसे शोभा पानेवाले वीर थे। आपने देवताओं तथा दानवोंका दर्प दलन करनेवाले क्षत्रियहन्ता घोर परशुरामजीको भी युद्धमें जीत लिया है
jito yena raṇe rāmo bhavatā vīryaśālinā | kṣatriyāntakaro ghoro devadānavadarpahā ||
Sañjaya said: “You, resplendent with valor, are the very one by whom Rāma (Paraśurāma) was defeated in battle—Rāma, the dreadful exterminator of kṣatriyas, the crusher of the pride of gods and demons.” In ethical and narrative terms, the verse underscores Bhīṣma’s extraordinary martial authority: even a fearsome, divinely empowered warrior known for punitive violence against corrupt rulers was once overcome by him, heightening the gravity of the war and the stature of those now engaged in it.
