Karṇa’s Lament upon Seeing Bhīṣma Fallen

trāsayiṣyati bāṇānāṃ kurūn anyāṃś ca pārthivān |

Sañjaya said: “The Kurus—and the other kings as well—will be struck with fear by the arrows (that are about to be released).” In the moral atmosphere of the epic, this line underscores how the momentum of battle is not only physical but psychological: the very discharge of a great warrior’s missiles becomes a force that shakes the resolve of entire armies.
