Sañjaya said: “O kings, according to each one’s strength, zeal, and valor, restrain the army of the Pāṇḍavas by whatever means is fitting.” In the moral tension of war, the counsel urges disciplined effort and coordinated duty within one’s capacity, rather than reckless overreach.

Act within one’s capacity—strength, zeal, and courage—using appropriate means. The verse emphasizes disciplined, proportionate effort and coordinated duty in a crisis rather than impulsive heroics.
Sañjaya reports a command addressed to the kings on the Kaurava side: they are urged to check the advancing Pāṇḍava forces, each contributing according to his ability and employing suitable tactics.
