raudraṁ dhanur-varaṁ śreṣṭhaṁ lebhe yad rohiṇī-sutaḥ | tat tuṣṭaḥ pradadau rāmaḥ saubhadrāya mahātmane ||

Sañjaya said: The excellent, formidable bow—once obtained by Rohiṇī’s son—was, when Rāma was pleased, bestowed by him upon the great-souled son of Subhadrā (Abhimanyu). The verse highlights the ethical weight of a worthy gift: a powerful weapon is entrusted not by mere possession, but through approval, merit, and responsible transmission amid the pressures of war.

Educational Q&A

Power (especially martial power) is not merely owned but entrusted: a superior weapon is given when the giver is satisfied with the recipient’s worthiness, implying ethical responsibility, proper training, and fitness to wield force within kṣatriya-dharma.

Sañjaya reports that Balarāma, who had earlier obtained a fierce and excellent bow, later—being pleased—bestowed that bow upon Abhimanyu, the son of Subhadrā, indicating Abhimanyu’s recognized valor and preparedness in the war context.
