Description of Chariot Standards and Allied Advances

Karna said: “Without doubt, those Pāṇḍava warriors are trained in the use of weapons and are fully capable of checking (Drona’s) advance. It seems to me that, at this moment, an exceedingly heavy burden has fallen upon Drona, the son of Bhāradvāja.”
The verse highlights sober judgment in war: even a formidable commander must recognize capable opposition, and leadership in battle carries an immense moral and tactical burden. Karna’s words underline that power must be measured against reality, and that command entails weighty responsibility.
In the Drona Parva context, Karna evaluates the battlefield situation and acknowledges that the Pāṇḍava fighters are well-trained and able to obstruct Droṇa’s movements. He concludes that Droṇa is presently bearing a very heavy load—both the pressure of achieving objectives and the strain of facing strong resistance.
