जलजानि च सत्त्वानि दहमानानि भारत । न शान्तिमुपजम्मुर्हि तप्यमानैर्जलाशयै:,भारत! जलाशय भी तप गये थे, जिससे दग्ध होनेवाले जलचर प्राणियोंको भी शान्ति नहीं मिल पाती थी
jalajāni ca sattvāni dahamānāni bhārata | na śāntim upajagmur hi tapyamānaiḥ jalāśayaiḥ ||
Sañjaya said: “O Bhārata, even the water-born creatures, burning in that heat, could find no relief; for the very lakes and reservoirs themselves had grown scorching.” The verse underscores how the violence and its attendant devastation spread beyond warriors to the helpless, turning nature itself into an instrument of suffering.
