भूरिश्रवा हधर्मेण त्वया धर्मविदा हतः । इस पक्षसे भी अधर्मके द्वारा ही शत्रुनगरीपर विजय पानेवाले भीष्म मारे गये हैं और तू बड़ा धर्मज्ञ बनता है पर तूने भी अधर्मसे ही भूरिश्रवाका वध किया है ।। एवं परैराचरितं पाण्डवेयैश्व संयुगे
dhṛṣṭadyumna uvāca |
bhūriśravā adharmena tvayā dharmavidā hataḥ |
evaṃ parair ācaritaṃ pāṇḍaveyaiś ca saṃyuge ||
Dhṛṣṭadyumna said: “Bhūriśravā has been slain by you—one who claims to know dharma—yet by an unrighteous means. And in this war, the Pāṇḍavas too have acted in the very manner practiced by others (their foes).”
धृष्टह्युम्न उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical tension of war: even those who claim to uphold dharma may resort to adharma under pressure, and moral compromise can spread as each side mirrors the other’s conduct.
Dhṛṣṭadyumna rebukes the opponent (implicitly Arjuna, in the Bhūriśravā episode) for killing Bhūriśravā by an unrighteous method, and remarks that in the battle the Pāṇḍavas too have come to act as their enemies do.
