न दिशो टद्यौर्न चोर्वी च न सम॑ विषमं तथा । उस अन्धकारमें न तो कौरव पहचाने जाते थे और न पांचाल तथा पाण्डव ही। दिशा, आकाश, भूमण्डल और सम-विषम स्थान आदिका भी पता नहीं चलता था

Transliteration

na diśo tad dyauḥ na ca urvī ca na samaṃ viṣamaṃ tathā |

Translation

Sañjaya said: In that engulfing darkness, neither the directions nor the sky nor even the broad earth could be discerned; likewise, no one could tell what was level or uneven. In such blindness of the battlefield, the Kauravas could not be recognized, nor the Pāñcālas and the Pāṇḍavas—showing how war’s chaos can erase ordinary markers of identity and orientation.
