Sañjaya said: Between those two colossal warriors, roaring like thunder, a battle arose—between Ghaṭotkaca and Alambuṣa—fierce, tumultuous, and hair-raising in its terror. The scene underscores how war, once unleashed, magnifies wrath and spectacle, drawing even mighty beings into a spiral of violence that tests resolve and restraint.

The verse highlights the intensifying nature of war: when pride and rage dominate, combat becomes a terrifying spectacle. Implicitly, it cautions that even extraordinary power, if driven by wrath, deepens destruction and tests one’s capacity for restraint and dharmic judgment.
Sañjaya describes a fierce duel on the battlefield between the gigantic rākṣasa fighters Ghaṭotkaca (on the Pāṇḍava side) and Alambuṣa (on the Kaurava side). Their roaring and immense strength make the encounter especially dreadful and dramatic.
