Sañjaya said: As they continued to fight, O king, the great night grew utterly dense—enveloping both the Pāṇḍavas and the Kauravas on every side. In that deepening darkness, the battle’s fury persisted, suggesting how war can press on even when clarity and discernment are obscured.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how conflict can continue even as conditions worsen—here symbolized by a night growing dense—hinting that in war, moral and practical clarity may be increasingly obscured, yet the momentum of violence persists.

Sañjaya reports to the king that while the Pāṇḍavas and Kauravas are engaged in battle, a great night sets in and becomes thoroughly dark all around them.
