Drauṇi’s Vow and the Description of the Nārāyaṇāstra

Sañjaya said: Then Vṛṣasena swiftly charged at the great chariot-warrior Drupada, who was advancing with his forces, intent on confronting Droṇa; and at that moment he showered him with hundreds of arrows. The scene underscores how, in the press of war, personal aims—such as checking a formidable teacher-warrior—draw immediate counterattacks, turning resolve into a test of discipline and endurance.

The verse highlights the kṣatriya context where resolve to confront a powerful opponent (Droṇa) immediately invites resistance; ethical steadiness in battle is shown not by mere intent but by disciplined action under sudden counterattack.
Drupada advances with his troops aiming to engage Droṇa, but Vṛṣasena rapidly intercepts and attacks him, releasing a dense volley—hundreds of arrows—against Drupada.
