Chapter 148: Karṇa’s Pressure, Dhṛṣṭadyumna Unhorsed, and the Summoning of Ghaṭotkaca
कृतजप्यस्य तस्याथ वृद्धक्षत्रस्यथ भारत । प्रोत्तेिछठतस्तत् सहसा शिरो5गच्छद् धरातलम्,भरतनन्दन! जप समाप्त करके जब वृद्धक्षत्र सहसा उठने लगे, तब उनकी गोदसे वह मस्तक पृथ्वीपर जा गिरा
kṛtajapyasya tasyātha vṛddhakṣatrasya tha bhārata | protteṣṭhatas tat sahasā śiro 'gacchad dharātalam, bharatanandana ||
Sañjaya said: “O Bhārata, when the aged Dhṛtarāṣṭra had finished his recitation and then suddenly rose, the head that had been resting upon his lap at once fell down upon the ground—O delight of the Bharatas.” The moment underscores the grim moral weight of the war: even in the midst of pious acts, the consequences of violence and the collapse of familial bonds intrude with shocking immediacy.
