भवितव्यं हि यद् भावि दैवं चेष्टयतीव च । सो<यं हतो विमर्देडस्मिन् किमत्राधर्मचेष्टितम्,जो होनहार होती है, उसके अनुकूल ही दैव चेष्टा कराता है। इसीके अनुसार इस संग्राममें भूरिश्रवा मारे गये हैं। इसमें अधर्मपूर्ण चेष्टा क्या है?
bhavitavyaṃ hi yad bhāvi daivaṃ ceṣṭayatīva ca | so 'yaṃ hato vimarde 'smin kim atrādharmaceṣṭitam ||
Sañjaya said: “What is destined to occur will indeed occur, and Fate itself seems to set actions in motion accordingly. Thus, in this very clash, Bhūriśravas has been slain in keeping with that destiny. What, then, is there here that can be called an unrighteous act?”
संजय उवाच
The verse frames a moral defense through the lens of destiny: what is fated will happen, and ‘daiva’ appears to propel events; therefore, the speaker questions whether blameworthy, adharma-driven intent can be assigned to the act in question.
Sañjaya comments on the killing of Bhūriśravas during a fierce melee, arguing that it occurred according to destiny and challenging the charge that the deed involved deliberate unrighteous conduct.
